Alarms off for the summer! I mean, I have a million things to do, that I tell myself I'll do, but I know I won't, and I'll leave until I'm a panicky mess in September. As it ever was. #EduGlow #EduTooter #Education

When your favorite student asks you if you're going to be their teacher next year: ☺️☺️☺️
My #EduGlow for the day.
My National 5 students were working hard on resistance combination questions when we heard hail start that then turned to snow. The windows are at the back of the room.
So I suggested they could bring their stools to the other side of their desks to continue working while watching the snow.
Was a lovely peaceful lesson.

#eduglow of today:
My students clapped when we finally proved that two lines where perpendicular; the exercise was a bit hard and used the scalar product, which is new for them.

#eduglow of this first day back at school:
1. A student was very happy when I told him that he was able to succeed in maths and that his grades were improving.
2. Another (really talented) student smiled timidly but also proudly when I told her that her method for solving a problem was smarter than what I would have done naturally myself.

#EduGlow of the week.
Introducing my S1s to alkali metals.
They loved seeing the reactions in the water trough.
I loved seeing their reactions. Plenty of oohs!
Particularly to the lilac flame of potassium.
#iteachscience #chemistry #edutooter #EduGlow
My S1s enjoyed investigating how concentration and particle size affect rates of reaction today.
Particularly when the calcium carbonate was added to the HCl and bubbled all the way up the test tube.

My #EduGlow moment for today.
It’s one of my favourite lessons of Higher Physics.
Moving charge in a magnetic field. Cue a class of kids twisting their hands to work out which way the force points.
Being in Scotland, we call it the right hand rule with electron flow, but I’ve warned them others use conventional current.

My #EduGlow moment today.
After the N5 prelims we shifted the classes. I’ve taken on a group who struggled, and we’re working on boosting confidence and exam technique as well as knowledge of physics.
I’ve just marked the test they completed today and I’m proud of several who have really improved their marks and shown the skills we’ve been working on. Onwards and upwards!

A lovely Friday #EduGlow - my Yr10s being on 'Study Leave' so I was able to go and spend some time at the local Primary school, sitting in on some Year 3 and 4 writing. It was so brilliant - so many teaching ideas and strategies, such skilled teachers, such brilliant children. #EduTooters @edutooters
Teaching the Standard Model today to my Higher class.
They enjoyed creating new hadrons using skittles for quarks.

My #eduglow moment today was seeing all the staff preparing for tomorrows Quality of Education review by the Trust. Their full commitment to it is admirable.
Today’s #EduGlow moment.
Orders of magnitude and estimations with my Higher class.
Always useful to think about what size of answer you’re expecting in a calculation.
Loved hearing their strategies for working out the approximate height of the Hotel Vancouver from a photo.
#eduglow today was one of the children coming to show me their work. A phenomenal different in the quality and quantity produced in one lesson. He was feeling so proud of himself.
Not sure what the opposite of #eduglow is, but I was at a training course today and one of the tasks was about SEND provison. The presenter, quite casually, said "think about things that you can practically do in your school because we know there is no support out there because of the broken system, but remember..." and she just carried on. How did we get to a situation where everyone knows its just shit. I'm fed up of my students being let down at every turn. #SupportTheTeacherStrikes

I'm giddy with Board Gaming excitement today which I'm going to count as my #EduGlow too. Running the gaming extra-curricular club, I was inspired to reach out to a local board game manufacturer and distributor (local to us as school, a massive, influential company). They're really kindly going to send us some free games! And set up a connection where the students can learn about careers in gaming. Their response was so much more than I hoped for! #Games #TableTopGames #Boardgames @edutooters

Today's #EduGlow - as part of a Literacy scheme of work, our Year 8s get to work on their own novels one lesson every two weeks. Today we were learning about different ways that published writers can plan & trying some out. They had such fantastic ideas and genuine enthusiasm. It's writing to enjoy the act of writing, to experiment, to be creative. It's not about mark schemes, GCSE requirements, numbers and letters to show progress. It's so enjoyable, for them and for me @edutooters
Forgot to add what a great privilege it was to lead the #peerreview yesterday at another school. Challenging and rewarding in equal measure. Lots of positives and next steps.
