Because of #Efnisienβs troublemaking, his half-brother BrΓ’n the Blessed had given Matholwch a magical cauldron in which dead soldiers could be placed and which would revive them as zombie-like killing machines. The #Irish king Matholwch brought out the cauldron to keep his troops strong against the mighty forces of BrΓ’n. Efnisien redeemed himself, however, by leaping into the cauldron. As it could reinvigorate only the dead, his living body caused it to burst apart.

#Efnisien mutilated #Matholwchβs horses without reason. BrΓ’n the Blessed βsent #Manawyddan and two others to make atonement. Matholwch should have sound horses for every one that was injured, and in addition a staff of silver as large and as tall as himself, and a plate of gold the size of his face. Matholwch accepted these terms, but not very cheerfully, and Bran now offered another treasure, namely, a magic cauldron which had the property that if a slain man were cast into it he would come forth well and sound, only he would not be able to speak.β

#FolkloreThursday theme today is villains so I thought I should bring up one of those tricky characters that acts as a villain and a hero? Efnisien; violent, emotional and prideful commits disturbing & horrifying atrocities but ultimately sacrifices himself in service to others.
