My co-workers just wrapped up an OCR remediation project for #EighteenthCentury Collections Online, using OCR tech that wasn't available when the archive was originally released.

Better quality data will also improve the tools we're currently building for parsing the data.

This past week has been challenging (a euphemism!) so I need to sew at some point this weekend to help me reset. Here is my next project: a 1770 pincushion from the Lady’a Magazine. I have drawn it onto the fabric but now is the fun bit. Colours? Stitches? (The magazine had no instructions, which I love.) I know what stitches I want to use but can’t settle on colours. Why I chose the only one with a perfectly circular outline (which I couldn’t recreate) is beyond me, but it was a fun experiment. One of my favourite things to teach is my final-year special module on the #eighteenthcentury body, Bodies of Evidence. And this week is one of my favourite weeks on Criminalised Bodies: Fairs and Felons. An afternoon of JackSheppard, criminal biography and the media and #truecrime ahead.

I am researching #EighteenthCentury #chapbooks and am looking for more #digitaleditions to see the full scope of the form. I been using McGill’s collection, the National Library of Scotland’s collection, and the University of York’s collection. Does anyone know of other collections?

All done. Pretty pleased with my #eighteenthcentury style needlecase made out of some modern #trishburr needle painted flowers I did a couple of years ago. Thanks to mastodon who suggested I repurpose these old projects as something useful. The #embroidery is better than my construction but still happy enough with it. @fiberarts

Taking the advice of fellow Tooters (is that what we call ourselves?) and turning some stitched flowers I did to practice needle painting (and which have been languishing in a bag) into a needle case (in the Georgian/ eighteenth century style). Flowers all backed with felt and cut into petals and half way through edging petal one with ribbon. #needlework #embroidery #craft #needlepainting #EighteenthCentury
