One of the main things I've learned on my #eldercare journey is that Power of Attorney is hugely important. Talk to your elders and make sure they've updated that paperwork.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL! THE 90yo FIL has moved into his granny flat! Many tasks remain to be done, but he has food, water, electricity, a working toilet, a TV he knows how to use, a recliner, a bed, clothes, toiletries, meds, kettle, tea and teeth!

Happy to get him into his own single level space where we can keep an eye on him as needed, but all have a bit more space to breathe. Dinner will continue to be provided nightly, but he can breakfast and lunch at his. #NZTwits #ElderCare

Drainlayers due today. When they are done, the 90 yo FIL can move straight into his already mostly unpacked single level granny flat from our second story guest room. Not much more to move over than his meds, toothbrush and Sultana Bran at this point. Fingers crossed there will be no snags or complications to delay this step #ElderCare

@rainspirit11 I think in some severe cases, family can petition for power of attorney to make medical decisions. You might try re-posting and using hashtags like #Eldercare #MedicalEthics #MedicalLaw #caregivers #Caregiving etc. And, try doing a search within those hashtags to see if you can find people who are familiar with this issue. I feel like the issue you're dealing with is not uncommon in seniors. Good luck!
