@ForfarFairLady @IndyRichard @Funwithphotos it is compulsory & you get fined if you don’t turn up. Spoiling your ballot is however allowed. But it’s pretty much always been like that. No idea how it would go if you tried to introduce it in UK now. Guessing an uproar about authoritarianism, democracy etc

Might be more productive to get big registration drives underway

I think one area that can help is improved electoral systems which reflect the fact that no more than 30% of the population actually vote for .

The French 2-round system has worked pretty well in that regard in that it allows people to vote for whoever they want and then reject the fascist candidate if they get through to the second round.

@freakazoid After making my last post in this thread, I thought about it, and I decided I should clarify that my opinion is that is under-rated by people who care about . I oppose for various reasons. I would support as a reform to voting in Canada [0]. I don't really know how would work out for electing a legislature.

[0] I endorsed it before a commission years ago.
