#Celtic #FolkloreSunday: After many happy years in Emain Ablach the #Irish hero #Bran mac Febail grew homesick for earth. When he and a group of other visitors to the land of Niamh reached the shores of #Ireland, one sailor was so moved that he leaped ashore. The eager man could not endure the transition to earthly time. In the #Otherworld, time passes more slowly than does ours, and as all his years caught up with him he died and faded to dust within an instant.Â
Â
Bran, saddened by the choice between death and exile, sailed away again. Presumably he still sails between this world and the other.Â

#Bran mac Febail was invited to #Emain Ablach by #Manannán mac Lir through a blooming silver branch and through a beautiful woman. Bran's journey lasted several centuries. The messenger from the #Celtic #Otherworld turned out to be the queen of the 'Woman's Land' and presented #Bran with a silver apple branch from Emain's tree, 'whose branches are of the most beautiful silver and its blossoms are glass eyelashes'.

#Celtic #Mythology: On #Beltane #Lugh gives the great king of #Ireland, #Cormac, a silver apple branch with three golden apples from #Emain's tree. `It was the highest pleasure and boon at the same time to hear the music emanating from the branch, as it put to sleep the severely injured, the sick, and those in childbed when the branch was shaken a little.`

In #Irish mythology, the Aobharr of Manannán was a magic horse that belonged to the god Lugh. It was quicker than the "naked cold wind of spring", and could travel over land or sea. Whoever rode on its back could not be killed.

On #Beltane #Lugh appears dressed in a purple fringed cloak, a gold embroidered petticoat and shoes of white bronze to the great king of #Ireland, #Cormac. The son of Conn receives from the great, shining, gray-haired warrior from the #Celtic #Otherworld a silver apple branch with three golden apples from #Emain's tree, whose branches are of the most beautiful silver and its blossoms are glass eyelashes. `It was the highest pleasure and boon at the same time to hear the music emanating from the branch, as it put to sleep the severely injured, the sick, and those in childbed when the branch was shaken a little.`
