I returned to UCLA Urban Planning to deliver the guest lecture “Learning From Informal Urbanism Enforcement” in Vinit Mukhija’s course Informal City: Research & Regulation.

The talk provides a polemical reflection on my decade+ doing zoning enforcement in South Central LA — in particular the challenges & epiphanies — and prepares emerging planners for the realities of professional practice.

Today I’m with the Whittier College Sustainability Club leading an #EmbeddedPlanning guide to Uptown Whittier.

Tonight I spoke at Whittier College in the Jobs For Justice series.

Titled, “Why be an Urban Planner?”, the talk explored my route to planning through graffiti + architecture, what planning is, careers in public, private, & nonprofit planning + allied fields, and my thesis that the future of planning is #EmbeddedPlanning praxis.

By night’s end, we ignited interest in planning practice.
