#Celtic #FairyTaleTuesday: After the wedding of #Cuchulainn and #Emer, the king of #Ulster had to exercise his "right of the first night". While #Conchobar mac Nessa feared #CúChulain`s reaction, he would have lost his authority if he had renounced his privilege. To preserve #Emer's virginity, #Conchobar shared the bed with #Cuchulainn's wife on her wedding night, but the #druid #Cathbad slept between them.

`The #fairy queen #Fand, “tear,” came to the warrior poet #CúChulainn, in a vision in which she whipped him senseless. The greatest of #Irish heroes fell into a lovesick stupor in which he lingered for a year. When the year had passed and the great feast of #Samhain came, he went into the Otherworld for Fand, leaving behind his loyal wife #Emer. Although Emer had endured #CúChulainn‘s other affairs, she could not bear to lose him to #Fairyland, so she followed him. When she saw how deeply Fand loved him, and he her, Emer offered to step aside. Fand, not to be outdone, offered the same and returned to her own husband, Manannán Mac Lir, who wrapped her in his magical cloak to make her forget the human hero. On earth, #CúChulainn and #Emer drank a potion of forgetfulness and returned to their earlier state.`

#Celtic #FaustianFriday: #CuChulainn had to jump over all three walls of her fortress, Luglochta Logo, and behead eight men in one fell swoop, before he could marry #Emer. But #Ulster's greatest hero was not allowed to harm her brothers.

#CúChulainn underwent perfection training in weaponry with the famous warrioress #Scáthach in #Scotland. Despite a promise of chastity to his bride #Emer, #CúChulainn impregnated #Scáthach's sister #Aoife there. From this sprang #Conla. When the latter had grown into a "little naughty boy", #CúChulainn had to kill him to preserve his honor. A prohibition forbade the greatest hero of #Ulster not only to refuse the duel, but also to be represented by another warrior.

#Celtic #Mythology: #Cuchulainn and #Emer were a childless couple. Since Emer`s father, #Forgall Manach, wanted to prevent the union of the two, he secretly initiated #CúChulainn to undergo perfection training in weaponry with the famous warrior #Scáthach in #Scotland. The Lord of Luglochta Logo hoped the rigors would overwhelm the hero of #Ulster and he would be killed. Despite a promise of chastity to #Emer, #CúChulainn impregnated #Scáthach's sister #Aoife there.
Possibly #Cuchulainn and #Emer would not have remained childless if in their wedding night the king of #Ulster had not exercised his "right of the first night". While #Conchobar mac Nessa feared # CúChulain`s reaction, he would have lost his authority if he had renounced his privilege. To preserve #Emer's virginity, #Conchobar shared the bed with #Cuchulainn's wife on her wedding night, but the #druid #Cathbad slept between them.

#Emer Foltchain (fairhair), daughter of Forgall Manach, was courted by #CuChulainn. She would only marry him if he first slew a hundred at the fords between the Delvin and the Boyne. Among them must be her magical aunt, who in various forms was trying to kill her. CuChulainn had to jump over all three walls of her fortress, Luglochta Logo, and behead eight men in a one fell swoop, before he could marry Emer. But Ulster's greatest hero was not allowed to harm her brothers.
CuChulainn had to rob Emer and her foster sisters from the castle and weigh her with gold and silver. He had to be able to go from #Samhain to #Imbolc and from #Beltene to #Lughnasa without sleep, otherwise Emer would not have married him.
