Inefficient combustion (primarily of wood, charcoal, coal, residues, etc.) responsible for 2.3 million premature deaths/yr + another 770k from ambient air pollution.
New paper does a great job of summarizing the state of knowledge in this space.

#EnergyPoverty is the theme for Week 2 of my Energy Policy and Governance course.
On the discussion board this week students were most surprised by: the scale of the problem and by how little money it would take to meet #SDG7.
The top Q: If it only takes ~3.5% of overall annual energy sector investment to meet basic Universal Access goals (#SDG7) why is it not happening? What is the stumbling block?
Good questions. Tomorrow's in-class discussion is going to be interesting.
🏠 #EnergyPoverty is expected to rise sharply this winter… and perhaps in years to come.
The @CEES_Energy project is investigating how #EnergyCommunities, which produce energy locally, can become leaders in tackling this problem.

Energy disconnections are needless cruelty. They worsen inequality, and should be completely banned in the EU

@caitrobinson @nightmayor Interesting! In a way, sounds similar to food deserts. On that note, I am interested in hearing whether it is an acutely spatial phenomenon, such as food deserts, that specifically affect certain neighbourhoods or is it more aspatial?
How does one study #EnergyPoverty ? And with what data?
Sorry to bomb you with questions, but the topic sparked an interest 🤓
