Tried changing from qwerty to Engram, didn't really like it. Second attempt,
this time Magic Sturdy. Useful links [1],[2]. Layouts for jorne keyboard can

Neuroscientists successfully test theory that forgetting is actually a form of learning https://medicalxpress.com/news/2023-08-neuroscientists-successfully-theory.html
Adaptive expression of engrams by retroactive interference https://www.cell.com/cell-reports/fulltext/S2211-1247(23)01010-0
Highlights
• Retroactive interference causes forgetting by the competition of two memory engrams
• Forgotten engrams can be expressed or updated by reexposure to training cues
• Artificial reactivation of engram cells rescues interference-induced forgetting
• Interference is an active process that requires the activation of the suppressed engram
these findings indicate that retroactive interference modules engram expression in a manner that is both reversible and updatable. Inference may constitute a form of adaptive forgetting where, in everyday life, new perceptual and environmental inputs modulate the natural forgetting process.

How memories form across the #brain. Understanding how #neurons coordinate to create memories could one day point to interventions for disorders. In PNAS Journal Club: https://www.pnas.org/post/journal-club/memories-form-across-brain #neurobiology #engram #MemoryEnsemble #amygdala #microscopy

I've been having this constant discussion with all my favorite #engram people, on the nature of the ensemble and it's role in learning & memory.
The q remains the same: is the ensemble solely made of the neurons that get activated by any given stimulus, encoding relevant info? Or does it include the up/downstream connections of those neurons, which facilitate encoding/info relay?
Here some data!
Local memory allocation recruits memory ensembles across brain regions

Thanks for posting this! Very interesting paper. I'm a bit surprised that this didn't interfere with normal learning paradigms considering cFos promoter has been used for tagging #engram neurons.

I reached 20 WPM on completely unknown text with #Engram. I'll call this a good day.
The downside is that at like 23:30, I was "Oh, I'll practice a little Engram, and go to bed!", but it's 02:30 now, and I'm not in bed yet.
Back to a mighty 16 WPM! Brain keeps switching back to Dvorak. I'll need to practice #Engram more often. A few minutes a day would do wonders.
Oh wow. It's been a while I practiced #Engram, I'm down to 4 whole words per minute. Ouch.
While playing with genkey, I also found a few other layouts of interest, which have punctuation on the index finger:
MTGAP30 has higher outward rolls on left, and lower alternates, and i
on the pinky is a big nope. Halmak suffers from the same problem.
Yay, ruling them out was fast, and I can now comfortably settle on #Engram! I did my due research, and didn't settle on Feels alone.

I found https://bit.ly/keyboard-layouts-doc, and I'm going through layouts now. Found a couple of interesting ones, so my current list of layouts to evaluate are:
They all have nice properties. Still favouring #Engram so far, but need to give a try to the others too.
Had a little time this morning, and came up with the #Engram-based layout below.
Keys that have two symbols: the bottom symbol is the first tap, top one is the second. Modifiers and layer switches are oneshots, as usual. Comp
is one-shot AltGr, short for Compose
.
This gets me all the symbols I need on one layer, we'll see how annoying those tap-dances are. I've been using :/;
and [/(
/]/)
as a tapdance for the past few years though, no problems there, so I have high hopes for the rest.
Been pondering and experimenting with some symbol stuff & #Engram.
Engram remaps some of the shifted symbols, and I don't want that. A key shifted on my layout should be the same as on QWERTY, because I want it all in firmware, and remapping shifted symbols there was fragile the last time I tried it.
Yet, I also want easy access to a bunch of symbols without shifting or layer changing. So I guess I will be tapdancing a few more to have enough space.
I think I am going to give #Engram a try. But gonna set up things first, so I can look at the layout. I had to revert back to Dvorak to type my toots at reasonable speed.
I was thinking... what if I abandoned my own layout for a bit, and tried out something that looks better than #Dvorak?
I have two contenders at the moment, #Halmak and #Engram. Neither is perfect, and I will do some modifications - I did so for Dvorak too after all, mostly on the number row.
For both Halmak and Engram, my changes would be similar. I'm pretty happy with how my symbols and numbers are laid out. What I'm looking for is alphas and punctuation.
