I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that a normalized version of #Schubert is what critics seem to love and gravitate towards. I think #EricLu was set up, being too young to be intimately familiar with the unique qualities of Schubert's music. This is mostly just straight performance, missing the soul. I am disappointed in the album, but so it goes. #classicalmusic

Oh my goodness, #EricLu is only 24! I suppose you have to hand it to him to try to pull of #Schubert. Still, the more I listen to him work through Piano #Sonata No. 20 A major, D. 959, I can't help but feel Lu is playing a very cleaned up version of Schubert. Which is not to say Schubert was never content. At times he was. And productive during those periods, but #FranzSchubert was never very good at hiding his mania. His depth of mood is carried throughout all his works. I can hear it in this piece, but it is being overlooked by the #pianist.

Finally listening to #EricLu's much acclaimed newly released album of #Schubert piano works. I love Schubert deeply, and feel that I know the composer well, but I am least familiar with his #piano compositions of all his works. I can still hear Schubert the man inside these piano pieces, but I also hear Eric Lu interweaving his own interpretation of Schubert, which, to put simply, sounds like a young person reading old music. To put crudely anyways. However, this is a Warner Classics release and I have had the impression this label is one where producers influence the artist and the final recorded work. That is not to say it isn't a good album so far. Lu is a very talented #pianist. Perhaps Schubert is not for the young? At least not typically. Or, perhaps Schubert was going through a period of stability when he composed some of these pieces. Or, perhaps Warner Classics doesn't understand extreme moods, which is a standard of Schubert's works. #classicalmusic
