Pseudoflower of Exobasidium ferrugineae growing on rusty staggerbush (Lyonia ferruginea). I wouldn't be at all surprised if these fruiting bodies emitted floral odors. Archbold Biological Station, Venus, FL, USA. Happy #FungiFriday. #fungi #fungus #Ericaceae

I appear to have been the second person to have seen a #HairyPinesap in #RhodeIsland on #iNaturalist — wild! The taxonomic status of these #nativeplants is unsettled (Variety? Subspecies? Full species?) but one thing is certain — they’re #parasiticplants that steal nutrients from fungi! They are in fact highly reduced Heaths (#Ericaceae ) and I suppose a bit of this still shows in their appearance.
