Microsoft Edge's Grammar mode was something I used often during streaming conversation classes over Zoom. It would break down sentences word by word with colored labels. Genuinely a good teaching feature for #ESL and English language learners.

Edge has plenty of other features I'd rather lose before that.

I've been building topical ESL conversation question randomizers with tables of values with Perchance.org.

Students can pick a question they feel comfortable answering from a list of target output patterns generated for them, and if they don't like any of the questions or topics displayed, they can click a button and generate other choices.

We can also build sentence patterns together to extend the activity, or extend vocab lists with student suggestions.

Teaching colleague mentioned that pre-pandemic, you'd have to ask students to hold off on their conversations when starting classes because they were so chatty, but now student sit in a room with peers & just silently tap on their phones before class.

It is uncannily accurate. The socializing in classes is at an all time low. Our group work is ramping up this part of the semester, so I hope this isn't a barrier for future assignments. They do chat in groups when asked.

Using /AITA as conversation starters in adult ESL classes once a session, keeping all their typos and slang for the realia of Internet posting, has been one of my favorite ways for low prep unique conversations for the past few years.

They are frequently full of foul language and inappropriate content for students, so you have to pick them carefully, but they do get people talking for sure.

There are about 15 agencies or departments in the #USA called "Fish & Wildlife" including the Federal Agency of the same name. I have an #ESL question for ALL of them: Why are fish not wildlife? Why not "Wildlife" agencies? Seems redundant to me. (Some states have a more apt "Game and Fish" or some DO have just "Wildlife", FYI)
