Good point! I think that the sudden federation makes more sense than my hypothesis for the single spike, though the media attention/Viel resignation makes sense for upping to 8k/hour at a sustained level today.

#CanFediverseScale ? The exponentially decaying rates of new #Fediverse accounts/day and instances/day (per instances.social [2]) from 8–17 Nov were nearly the same (dlog10(N)/dt = -0.059 vs -0.055): we seem to be scaling [3]. :)

But #ThirdWave just started [1] (crude estimate for 18 Nov = circle)!
