Before #Rome, the main #civilization in northwest #Italian peninsula was the #Etruscans. The population were absorbed into Rome as citizens and brought the proto-Greek alphabet. This became Rome’s #Latin alphabet after it was reversed in order and direction.
They called themselves the #Rasenna. It’s easy to read their name if you read the proto-Greek letters right to left or in a mirror image.

The best article I've seen about the discovery of perfectly preserved Etruscan and Roman bronze statues in an ancient bath in Tuscany. They are the first group of statues from that era that have been excavated using modern methods.

24 well-preserved bronze statues from an ancient Tuscan thermal spring have been discovered by a team of Italian archaeologists, in a find which is said to "rewrite history" about the transition from the Etruscan civilisation to the Roman Empire.
The discovery, in sacred baths of the San Casciano dei Bagni archaeological dig near Siena, is one of the most significant ever in the Mediterranean.
