Intel’s Open Source Monospace Font Looks Awesome
Between IBM Plex Mono, Hack, Fira Code, and JetBrains Mono I think we Linux users are spoilt for choice when it comes to open-source monospace fonts that look good and work great. Still, there’s always room for more, right? Intel thinks so, hence the release of Intel One Mono. This is an “expressive monospaced font family that’s built with clarity, legibility, and the needs of developers in mind.” Better yet it’s not only free to download and use but free to edit, and free to redistribute. Typography experts at Frere-Jones Type worked alongside Intel’s brand team and marketing company VMLY&R :sys_more_orange:

New Icons, Symlink Fixes for Flathub Apps Added to Paprius Icon Set
I know that the Papirus icon pack is hugely popular so I figured I’d ferry word that a new version is available for download The June update is largely composed of symlinks to allow Flathub versions of apps already covered by the set match up to their corresponding icons. This includes icons for Adobe Reader, Godot 3, Jellyfin Server, Proton VPN, Puddletag, Waterfox, and ZSNES. A handful of Steam titles, including Dream Logical World and popular emulator RetroArch, get icons; and the icon for VSCodium, a well-regarded “de-Microsoft’d” version of Microsoft’s VSCode editor, has been redesigned to echo the upstream :sys_more_orange:

Want More Wallpapers in Ubuntu? Install GNOME Backgrounds
Wallpapers – you know I love ’em. Ubuntu 23.04 comes with a small selection of (largely lobster themed) wallpapers out of the box. The choice is neither vast nor varied so you may find yourself looking for some additional ones to liven up your desktop. Well, one fast and easy way to quickly add more high-quality wallpapers to Ubuntu is to install the gnome-backgrounds package. This is available in the Ubuntu repos, though you’ll need to install it using the command line as Ubuntu Software doesn’t show a result for it). This package contains the “official” GNOME wallpaper which you’ll :sys_more_orange:

Ubuntu 23.04 Default Wallpaper Revealed
Ready for your first look at the new default wallpaper for Ubuntu 23.04? Course you are! And with a codename like the “Lunar Lobster” it’s only natural that the designers of the official Ubuntu 23.04 background have leaned lovingly into this ludicrous label with lascivious zeal. So here, in all its compressed JPEG glory, is Ubuntu’s luxe new lead: All things said, this lusciously illustrated lobster should help to liven up Ubuntu’s latest release. Ubuntu’s designers had an unenviable task in translating such a wacky codename into a well considered graphic. There are stars! A moon! And… whatever those triangles :sys_more_orange:

Get Horizontal OSD for Brightness/Volume Change on Linux Mint
If you find Linux MInt’s on-screen display (OSD) when changing volume and brightness a little boxy there’s a neat extension that changes their look entirely. The “Horizontal OSD” extension for Linux Mint (yes, Linux Mint has extensions too) reformats Cinnamon’s default volume and screen brightness indicators from a vertical box to a horizontal bar. It’s a subtle tweak that I think gives the Cinnamon desktop an extra splash of modernity (GNOME Shell switched its OSD from boxes to bars last year). While the look of the horizontal OSD blends in perfectly with the rest of the Linux Mint’s default look :sys_more_orange:

Make GNOME Calendar, Clock Icons Show Actual Date and Time
Ever looked at the GNOME Calendar and Clock app icons and thought: “hmm, they’d look much cooler if they showed the current date and the actual time”? Well, a brand new GNOME extension allows them to EXACTLY that! It’s called ‘Dynamic Calendar and Clocks Icons’ (sic) and adds dynamic, updating app icons for the GNOME Calendar and the GNOME Clocks apps.
