Before upgrading FCP, duplicate your application and rename it with the version #. THEN compress a .zip for archiving, but leave the renamed copy.

Leaving the app allows for a right-click “Open with” menu that allows you to choose which version of FCP you need.

Optional: Drop it into a folder called “Old FCP Versions” to tidy-up the Applications folder.

Bonus: Tag older, key libraries with the FCP version you created it with. You know which FCP version to choose.

I hope i'm not jumping the gun here, but dare I say it... #fcp 10.6.8 is quite snappy, especially with Audio Unit effects applied. My audio waveforms have NEVER rendered this quickly.

I hope this isn't a fluke result.

The top billing for this year's macOS Sonoma is ... screen savers.

Not yet sure if that's a bad thing or a good thing.

Maybe good, if this means there’s lots of focus on bug fixin’ behind the scenes.

My Mac kernel panics every shutdown (for like the past 6 years) because I have 11 volumes (like 27 physical disks) connected via Thunderbolt, and apparently most people don't do that.

But i hope that bug gets fixed sometime this decade.

Major new Audio Hijack update released today.

The new built-in Speech Denoise effects module is fantastic. I have lots of noisy RAID enclosure fans, and this is cleaning up the audio nicely. With very little lag/delay.

This morning, after upgrading to #FCP 10.6.6 I noticed a bunch of my audio stopped working. I dug into it and a bunch of my audio plugins are now appended with 2 at the end. Not all, but some.

Was this intentional, or a bug? Because it broke a bunch of stuff…

It is v 1 and I really do not see this as being a replacement for running #FCPX on a desktop or laptop in any way.

I see the use-case for professional users, such as yourself, being watching footage, tagging, keywording (which I have to believe is coming), making selects and maybe even putting together a very rough assembly of a sequence and then sending it over to your computer.

Personally, I consider my M2 MBP to be VERY portable and has all my #FCP capabilities

@funwithstuff Those transitions which ignore the background clips solves one of the biggest frustrations i've had with PiPs. I don't know how you did that (i'm weakly skilled with Motion), but I sure wish all transition effects, 3rd party or built-in, had that ability. Even better if it were a configurable toggle on the effect.

Question for my fellow #FCP editors: I’m doing the classic “highlight a person in a clip by putting a circle matte around them and fading the background” trick, but I’m manually adjusting the mask.

Is there a way to track them and automate this, from WITHIN Final Cut?

Ideally without having to buy a plugin…

So apparently #FCP titles *can* do smart quotes and dashes and all that fun stuff, they just aren’t turned on by default and need to be enabled *every time* you make a new title.

Anyone know how to override this?
