Granted at the current rate of speed increase, even bad low-level emulation will longterm be feasile on COTS parts that ain't expensive.
For a lot of people, a #VirtualBox on some #MiniPC would likely be sufficient, but then again they likely just want to play something and not tinker much.
OFC a "#MSDOS #classic" would be possible to some extent since #Microsoft #FLOSS'd it.

Wären beide nich #FLOSS und #dezentral, man hätte den Maitainern schon vor Jahren ne Waffe an den Kopf gepresst und diese zur Abschaltung des Netzes (#Tor) und Integration von #Govware (#Linux) gezwungen.
Die Verunmöglichung eines Erfolgs blockierte das.

And yet to this day I continue to see people of good will giving presentations and writing blog posts using that framing.
When will we learn that defining people by what they are not* is not a valid pathway to inclusion?
(* caveat because "non-technical contributors" are absolutely technical. It's a BS phrase.)

I've been using #Zoneminder for years, but I tire of its constant high CPU usage, ancient motion detection algorithms, etc. So far, #Frigate, #iSpy, and #Shinobi look interesting. The #HomeAssistant integration in them is a plus, and #Frigate has ML offload to a TPU (available as a USB dongle) for dramatic reduction in CPU and power usage (and more sophisticated detection; differentiating cars from people, etc.) #AskFedi

The cold hard truth is that #FLOSS is inherently more secure than #CCSS and by it's very nature, #vulnerabilities are easier found and fixed - usually way before any #malware in the wild exists that #exploits it.
