I think there will be an accretion of alignment agreements over time. But that is not half-in half out

Anything more requires #FoM - and that is not something any party in #england that aspires to gain a majority will adopt as an aim .....at least not for some years

Allegedly the stumbling block and something that #KeirStarmer is also still quite unsure of. It is a freedom that goes both ways.

Now, in 2018, even in the strongest #Leave supporting areas, support for Freedom of Movement was well above 70%, on average.

This suggests that FoM was not as much of a controversial issue across the Leave/Remain spectrum.

And that is not surprising, because many #Leave voters were #ProtestVote's.

Well possibly the #EU now may feel less constrained on what regulations they impose now we in the #UK have no say - but they move slowly and I am not sure it will make much odds most of the really dirty money is from outside #EU jurisdiction anyway.

We always had a #veto as members on anything HMG thought not in our interest - now we don't. But I doubt it is as important to ordinary mortals as #SM and #FOM

Well I think at this stage there is more danger in reopening barely stitched #brexit wounds. It is an uncomfortable fact a fair proportion - over 20% - of #labourVoters chose #leave in 2016. So prior to a #GE there is danger in talk of #rejoin or #FoM - I suspect #starmer would prefer to say nothing at all about the #EU
Once in #10, then policy develops..... but big changes must be in a #manifesto - so IMO that would be #2018GE at the earliest

Well I think not until #Starmer safely in #DowningSt and #Labour have had a chance to look at the books. I suspect they already have back channels to the #EU about what is possible to discuss in the short term. Without a manifesto commitment #SM with the concommitant #FoM is a no-no, and any inclusion in the #2024LabourManifesto would IMO threaten obtaining a majority/

Cheap shot, I know, but I honestly think it would be a tactical error for #Labour to advocate #rejoin or #singleMarket entry (which carries with it #FoM in #EU eyes) for the #nextGE

Probably the bit where more votes are lost in marginal seats from raising #Brexit issue again before a #GeneralElecton than gained in less critical seats. There is really zero chance of a #FoM based deal being on the table in next parliament - & much to do to improve relations with EU short of that that is possible

I post in sorrow - #Brexit is an enormous error as was clear to many in 2016 - but to compound that error by letting the Tories win yet again would be unforgivable

Depends how you define "credible" - if as I suspect #Stamer does it means focussed on winning the next #GE then #Labour looks pretty credible

& went on several "B**cks to Brexit" protest marches - at one of which #Starmer spoke clearly of his opposition to the project before it was im[plemented. But I'm an engineer not an ideallist - I accept for pragmatic reasons fighting to #rejoin or even for #FoM is not the best way at present

Well like the rest of us posting on #UkPolitics here, you are in a minority within the electorate.

So I guess the #Labour calculation is that they lose fewer votes from those not wanting to revisit 2016-19 in marginal seats by avoiding commitments on reversing #Brexit than they gain by making bold claims to be doing so.

IMO there is zero chance of rejoining or #FoM anytime within the next 5+ years so what you are arguing is electoral tactics only.

I see we have our work cut out for us with Starmer.
