Propaganda, Nostalgia, Children's Literature and ... Peepo!
Why a #1GM #FWW #WW1 book of propaganda aimed at children and a nostalgic story told in rhyme accurately portray aspects of the two world wars for very different purposes. https://t.co/Tet3d1cOni @histodons #alsace #propaganda

A sorry looking #grandeguerre #1GM #WW1 memorial to 79e régiment d’infanterie near Deuxville (54). Very much in need of restoration if it’s to look like the regimental badge should in the image from Wikipedia.
The memorial commemorates the regiment’s role as part of 11e division d’infanterie (« la Division de fer ») in the bataille du Grand-Couronné which took place at the same time as the first battle of the Marne in September 1914, and which prevented a German advance through Lorraine. #FWW
Very interesting to read a #FWW British general openly praising the French Army and Foch as Allied Generalissimo whilst also recognising the worst xenophobic excesses of some of his fellow senior British commanders.
Insightful about Pershing and the AEF as well, even while admitting the Americans remained something of an enigma. Recommended. #WW1 #histodons

Took part in this. Enjoyed it a lot but I do wonder who’s going to listen to a group of white men of our age talking for 2 and a half hours. And there are two more planned!
If this is your thing, you will enjoy this and Mike the host does a great job with these so support for him would be, as he’d say, ahem awesome. #1GM #FWW #WW1

In this case, the Hôtel du Commerce in Arras, which was frequented by officers throughout the war. https://www.societe.com/etablissement/hotel-du-commerce-62192009900010.html #WW1 #1GM
