@TheyOfHIShirts You make some excellent points here, and yes, it is a big problem with academia and conferences in general. What I will say, is that my conception of #FanLIS is to be something that is less talking at, and more talking with - having a conversation. A couple of years back, we had a workshop format for one slot which was really popular. There was no 'academic' language. And we are open to other kinds of format, like vids or presentations of comics/zines etc.
I tumbled the TL;DR version of the #FanLIS23 #CFP for the sanity of non-academics who want to get involved. See below:๐

@TheyOfHIShirts Sorry, I also forgot to say, that we do have LIS people presenting as well as acafans. Part of the idea of #FanLIS is to have both sides talk to one another, and it can be difficult because of the different nomenclatures, so we do try to encourage people to speak plainly in the presentations ๐
@TheyOfHIShirts Hey! This is Ludi, co-founder of @FanLIS! I totally take your point, and as a LIS person, I had to do a lot of reading of the fan studies world before I understood all the vocab too, so I sympathise! Is there anything I can do to help with the CFP, or in general? #FanLIS is absolutely interested with fanworks as documents/texts/outputs of fandom, if you will.
