Covered in dusty cobwebs, the Brain DJ re-emerges with a song written by Lil Hardin (Lillian Armstrong) and recorded in 1940 by her husband Louis Armstrong And His Orchestra, and by Louis Jordan And His Tympany Five in the same year.

We'll go with take 2 (03:27) from April 1940 rather than take 1 (03:05) from the same session by –

Today in Music History May 21, 1904: Jazz legend and piano master Fats Waller was born. His creativity and innovations in the Harlem stride style of piano playing influenced much of the jazz that followed. During his career, he copyrighted over 400 of his compositions. He started playing piano at age six. As a teenager, he studied with the stride piano master, James P. Johnson. In 1926, he was kidnapped by Al Capone’s men and forced at gunpoint to perform for the gangster’s birthday party. In the early 1940s, he became the first African American songwriter to compose a hit Broadway musical.

I drive to downtown, thinking its parking meter hours and enforcement are like Seattle's. They aren't. Hang expired disability placard on mirror and race about geocaching in two locations. Found one, chose not to disturb a group at the second.
No tickets. Zoom on home. Put on knkx.org Art of Jazz (20h00 UTC) and I hear "Persian Rug" by the Mighty on the Mighty Wurlitzer. What's next? Fats performing "I Believe in Miracles."
