Contrary to some complaints, I think the fact I most like about the UX of this site is precisely the fact that favs/"likes" don't "do anything" (in terms of increasing reach of the post, etc.). It's liberating to be able to just acknowledge somebody's post as good/cool/funny/..., without having to reflect too much upon one's own action in the context of the larger attention economy. Just a friendly smile and a nod across the web. #fediverse #mastodon #favourite

#Mastodon tip: #favourite is similar to ‘like’ but it’s private: only the toot author sees it. Nobody can get a list of your likes. It’s like giving them a thumbs-up. If you think other people would like to see it, then you can #Boost it and then everyone who follows you can see it too! ❤️

Please could you stop telling me to boost everything as much as possible? I and everyone else knows the difference between liking and boosting. I enjoy being able to show I like something without filling my followers’ timelines with all the randomness I like. I’m interested in connection, not reach. Thanks 😊

If you enjoy a toot, clicking #favourite lets the author know. But the #BOOST button is the way to allow your #followers, and those on your local #instance, to have the chance of enjoying it too.

And if you want others to discover your toots in their #searches, make sure #KeyWords in your toots are #hashtagged.

Remember: don't just #favourite. #Retoot. A #favourite doesn't impulse a post. It just informs the publisher that you liked it. A #retoot gives visibility in your instance to posts published in other instances that otherwise might go unnoticed.
