@celiagw I've always treated that, and the news tab, as sops for those people who still have Twitter Think, and just ignored them.

If you want to find people to follow, local timelines (of this and other instances) are good resources, as are the people who post introductions and #FediFollows .

Perhaps the #Mastodon software has this feature just to illustrate how badly a machine does this. (-:
