Is there a reliable single source of info for which #Mastodon instances are federated with each other? I really don't want to move to a new #instance but I've noticed lately that I seem to be missing some posts (and I'm seeing fewer generally). #FediTips @mastodonmigration any thoughts?
Review time again! Here's a concise look at the third party app Fedilab:
You can use it with Mastodon accounts (including forks like Glitch), PeerTube accounts, Pixelfed accounts and many other types of Fediverse account.
It's got a really nice array of options if you dig down into the settings menus, it does a lot of things that the official apps don't do. I've tried to summarise the good stuff in the review.

@trishgreenhalgh Glad you're acclimatising! & before the new term starts...
It's worth following a LOT of people here, in my case about 100x the number I actually followed on birdsite. I do not attempt to read all the interesting posts thus available, but then rely on hashtags & lists to check in on specific topics or the people I must read. It may be especially useful to follow people with diverse interests & servers, as it can help broaden what's visible to you & to others.

Mastodon allows you to verify yourself as the owner of your website. If your website is well-known, then this will in effect verify your identity as well.
Here's how to verify you are the owner of a website:

If the green verified link method doesn't work for you, here are a number of methods for fixing it:

I’m starting to think that the reblog feature of #mastodon is unhelpful. I love you all dearly but I’m rarely interested in what you’re reblogging. I follow you because I’m interested to hear directly what you’ve got to say! ♥️. Currently researching how to filter out reblogs from my feeds.

We are advised to use #hashtags to make our posts more discoverable on #mastodon / #Fediverse.
However, I always wonder if putting in too many can distract from content of the posts / make them look like spam.
Any etiquette on what is the ideal number of hashtags? #FediTips

In case you missed it, there's a special online tool to help you find your Twitter friends on Mastodon:
Fedifinder was created by @luca
(If you're wondering why it asks for authorisation, it's explained in the previous thread about this at https://social.luca.run/@luca/110768875074355454)

@stpaultim I have used this quite a bit. Works v v nicely. The only thing is that its compose function is not great - you can't just copy paste images in (I think) and also does not predict hashtags like other mastodon clients do (you have to type them all out, but upgrading to premium stores hashtags).
Phone apps, as @chpietsch indicated, also allow #scheduling v well - e.g. @apps @megalodon
But @bufferapp remains the best desktop solution to scheduling on #Mastodon , personally. #FediTips

I really like this tool for finding additional people to follow: https://followgraph.vercel.app/

I just followed SO MANY nature photographers
Do you want to automatically block DMs from strangers on Mastodon?
1. Log onto your server's website
2. Go to ⚙️ Preferences
3. Click Notifications (on the mobile website click ☰ and then Notifications)
4. Tick "Block direct messages from people you don't follow"
5. Click "Save changes"
If you change your mind, do the same thing again but untick the box and save changes.

Techy Fediverse fans might like to check out the "Delightful Fediverse" page, which lists all known Fediverse projects both past and present:
The projects are sorted into themes, and discontinued projects are marked with a ghost 👻 icon.
If you know someone is on the Fediverse but you can't find their account by searching, ask them for their account address and paste this into the search box. Their account profile will then appear automatically, and you can follow them there. More details about how to do this:
(When an account is very new, and/or it hasn't posted very much, it may not have been noticed by your server, and that means it won't show up in searches on your server.)
I see posts about opting into search with links to the preference. But when I just the Settings icon on the web and walk through all the options, I don't see any privacy or search options. Are these new search settings hidden somehow unless you use the posted links? #mastodon #search #FediTips

Man I'm on the fence about whether to have the Home tab show replies. Leaning toward YES for three reasons:
1) I will sometimes "reply" to myself with an important update or additional content that others will hopefully see.
2) We can easily turn some of our replies into DMs if we want.
3) We can mute someone or stop following if they show up too much in our feed.
Yeah I think it's worth keeping "Show replies" on. You?
