In #MYPoli news, filed under, "get a load of this guy", please enjoy the unbelievable achievement of Howard Lee, MP for Ipoh* Timur in the following interview where he managed to look like an even bigger tool than BSL: https://twitter.com/codebluenews/status/1632939132057182209?t=OyZgbtW02ime6Ofb5GrMAQ&s=19
Please also enjoy how the accent contributed to the whole effect. You can't do wanker without sounding like you're from within M25 boundaries i guess.
* Ipoh once again for the win (of some kind)

Outside of Kampung Baru, a parcel of land that basically cannot be developed via eminent domain due to colonial legacy legal footwork, vestiges of old KL gets thin on the ground, unless of course, it's economically useful, like this headquarters for Badan Warisan (a CSO-derived heritage preservation body). Anyway, the Conlay MRT station seems almost ready to come online, which means the pavilion area gets another access point and I can retain my metro KL babyness* about how the walk to the KLCC station is sooo far (it's only about 15 mins; but RIP if you're not able-bodied though).
*The greater metro KL area is getting more and more networked & accessible, and the overall urban climate will never beat Bangkok or Singapore's more humid and hotter heat, but I'm speaking more to my fellow class brethren, who could somehow manage those cities but the thought of not driving in KL? Commence the long list of complaints & impossibilities.

It's national craft week season (ironically it runs for two weeks) - time for me to restock my fabrics and also get new woven mats for house. Probably some bead jewellery too, and maybe some new notebooks (there's a couple of small studios that use discarded pineapple fibres)

an interesting little trivia from a colleague: in Mexican English, due to the proximity to American English, 'apartment' is a regular old building, but a 'flat' is fancy upscale highrise. Which is the polar opposite here since we're British English-derived but like anywhere exposed to American culture, and so flats feel very common/plebe, because public housing is called government flats. Apartment (and condos) feel fancier because they're built by private developers. Though apartment does feel very generic these days.

Oh no succumbed to the Malay-Muslim tradition of buying new bolts of cloth (which will be sent to the tailor for the traditional/festival dress) for #Raya (#Eid) instead of the newer Malay-Muslim tradition of waiting at the last absolute second and buying last year's Raya stock on #Zalora. #Malaysia #Fedijaya #MYToots #UsingUpMyPerDiem

That reminds me to have a quick reminder to anyone following #Malaysian media outlets: Code Blue/Galen Centre does decent reporting on their #PublicHealth beat because they scored big on access journalism, but never forget, market liberalization of the public health sector is an established editorial decision. IDK how's the give-and-take between them and Khairy's team in the last administration but they carried a lot of water for his pitch on further privatisation as a cost-saving measure for a reason.
(Will never be able to unsee wefies of BSL with her NRA friends whenever she goes to USA)

I did it, i actually did a review of this transparent face mask after all: https://youtu.be/V8oCjGwC8UI
It's called AiruFlo.The interesting thing is I didn't even know it was made in #Malaysia. The hilarious thing is right up to the point of me actually receiving the delivery, I doubted it was legit because the website was... A Choice. (You'll get it if you can parse how marketing copy work with 'shopped photos). But it's actually pretty decent! I'll probably be using it on presentation and meeting days at the office to start. Truly it's been hard trying to find something that can also accommodate the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community (which somehow includes me? I swear, when I can't lip-read my comprehension ability nosedives).
Oh yeah, the website: https://www.airuflo.com. you can also find it on MYS Shopee/Lazada.

Lunar New Year here is almost exclusively (socioculturally) Chinese New Year (in the southern tradition; though there's consensus to do all the wishing in Mandarin). Unfortunately this year I'll be away for most of the season :( but who knows, it's pretty global these days, I might be able to spot the local celebrations where I'll be.
In the meantime, here's a shot I took just before the pandemic - lion dances are de riguer.

Me checking in the local news feeds and finding out corps like McDonald's have now instituted hourly wages (we don't have that unit calculation as a legal standard) because the new monthly minimum wage is RM1500 because they're counting on our cultural habit of overworking even though a part-time job is maximum 70% of fulltime hours (which is capped at 45 hours a week): ah, classic.
The last month has been full of cursed discourse from people who don't understand externalities as well as delusional that they'll be rich one day.
(if I understand the implications correctly, this should formally extend coverage to gig workers as well. the flexi-work subclauses are of interest: not detailed here, but employees can request and employers must respond in 30 days iirc. if the response is to not approve it, they can be brought up to the labour tribunal to determine if there're grounds to their reasons. basically the same logic for leave approval)
let's see if this year's diary project will last. i love this chronodex stamp to never not use it (found it in a taiwanese stationery shop that's on shopee). the daily calendar sticker is from himekuri, this little notebook block is from a local brand that does the paper from reconstituted oil palm fibres (iirc)

i genuinely don't know how the mono-calendar people must see time. Yes, it's new year's eve, and happy new year indeed, but it's going to be Chinese New Year in less than a month anyway and I'm still in a prepping kind of mood (that is to say: figuring out festive outfits for the open houses and visits etc). But before that would be Ponggal, not a new year but also a high holiday.
Then Thaipusam (also NOT a new year). Then Ramadan to Eid, so another couple of months of 'festive mood'. Tamil New Year will be in Ramadan season too. Easter is somewhere near to Eid which makes another shared Lent+Ramadan fasting season lol
Then Buddha's Birthday. Then the Harvest Festivals. Then another Eid. Which means the Islamic New Year is incoming. Then the Prophet's Birthday. Which comes in between Independence then Federation Days, then Deepavali which means CHRISTMAS IS COMING.
No such thing as a failed resolution, I just wait for another couple of months amirite.
