#Content spreads across the #Fediverse #network via #follow, #boost, and #hashtags.

Posts are always visible on the server they originate from.

Posts are only sent to other servers when 1) someone from the other server is following the account that made the post, 2) someone from the other server is following someone who boosted that post, or 3) someone directly accesses the post by putting the URL into the search bar.

When you #search a #hashtag on a server, you see all the posts that server has with that hashtag.

You curate your #feed by following people you like from other servers and hashtags you want to see more of.

You spread your own content by other people following and/or boosting from other servers, and add hashtags so people on those other servers see it without following you or the person who boosted you.

ok #FediverseTips I desperately need some help with finding some software to access aus.social and the fediverse with a somewhat customisable interface which I can adjust size of buttons and text...

and preferably one that can key into multiple social networks because I'm on many... and interact with few since the cataracts...

and this is the biggest obstacle to effectively using this...Ive tried whalebird (using atm) and a list of others but maybe there are new ones with more features since last time

I strongly recommend everybody, just once in a while, to scroll through the federated timeline.

You'll find interesting gems, since not everyone chooses to use hashtags.

@kimscaravelli depends on how you are accessing mastodon.

If you are using #Tusky you could make use of the favourites button to show latest posts from accounts you've favourites.

If using the #MastodonApp go to your profile page and click on the star icon in top right to see what your favourite are up to.

Does anyone know if there's a #tool to evaluate how many of the #posts in my #feed are from which #accounts and/or hashtags that I #follow?

I may need to prune my feed a bit, as keeping up is kind of a chore right now, but I'd like to have the data to make an informed decision.

(Please, no replies decrying the premise. I have finite time to be here, and I want it to count.)

I think the issues will be fixed soon, but if you're using the #ActivityPub plugin of #wordpress here are two workarounds I realized I needed to fix issues I'm having:

1) Manually specifying the excerpt as it doesn't currently support more divider, in order to get a clean first paragraph instead of a bunch of stuff squashed together with returns removed.

2) Schedule posts so that tags are picked up. If you post it right away, it might not see the tags yet and leave that out.

Great article by @mmasnick with tips on how to find people to follow.

FollowGraph in particular is very useful. It finds the people that are followed by your followers, and orders them by the number of followers following them.

Okay, that was more tongue twister than useful info. But the point is, it finds the people your followers think are worth following.

It just gives their bio, and a Follow button. But the follow button doesn't actually follow, it goes to their profile, where you can see what they've posted, and follow there. That makes it a little slow, but realistically, you want to do that anyway, and this way it doesn't need your credentials, just your Mastodon address.
