I found this little fern in Planten un Blomen, Hamburg. I'm not sure if it's Asplenium bulbiferum or A. daucifolium. Both ferns look very similar.

A favorite in our NZ fern book, because of the unique shape of its foliage, is Trichomanes reniforme (=Cardiomanes reniforme; the kidney fern) in the Hymenophyllaceae. The fertile fronds have numerous sori along the margin. #FernFriday
Another ๐๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ด species in our collection of NZ #ferns is labeled as ๐๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ด (๐ญ๐ช๐ต๐ฐ๐ฃ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ค๐ฉ๐ช๐ข) ๐ฎ๐ข๐ค๐ช๐ต๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ข. This may be a misspelling of ๐. ๐ฎ๐ข๐ค๐ช๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ข, which is endemic species to NZ. ๐๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ด ๐ฎ๐ข๐ค๐ช๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ข (sweet fern) is described as having โsori in the notches between the segments, not nearly reaching their tipsโ (Crookes, 1963), which is displayed nicely in this specimen. Just because itโs cool, here's also a high magnification of the sporangia. You can even see a stoma & some of the spores! #fernfriday
A truly gorgeous item in our collection is this ๐, New Zealand Ferns. Prepared and mounted by T. Cranwell in Parnell, NZ, it features a green leather spine and carved wooden panels for the front & back covers. This was gifted to the University of Tennessee Dept. of #Botany (now EEB) by Irvin Saxton in April 1945. It had been a gift to his grandfather from his grandfatherโs brother (so Irvin's great uncle) in 1870. #FernFriday

#FernFriday: There are a few epiphytes on this tree trunk in #Ngeremlengui #Palau but the most abundant plants you can see are the one-cell thick (except for the vascular tissue) fronds of Crepidomanes (Hymenophyllaceae)

For #FernFriday here is Elaphoglossum peltatum growing around the base of an Alsophila tree fern in the forest on Cerro Punta in Puerto Rico. This is from a field site for an Alsophila hybrid zone that Dave Conant and students studied. #ferns #PuertoRico #botany
