I see that California brought in a 2008 #fire #BuildingCode , discussed summarily at https://www.sacbee.com/news/california/fires/article227665284.html

The article only says #FireResistant building materials are required, and clearing away of material around houses. Apparently wooden shingle roofs are banned -- hard to believe anyone would even consider using them in areas vulnerable to wild fire.
