Til now, i've been using https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firefox-translations/ , which works well, albeit has a clunky UI. This apparently next-gen advance on the AO, baked-in via #aboutconfig, & enabling both the options per article, is elegant & effective, using https://linuxnews.de/ as my guinea pig. Nice; another AO now redundant.

Woohoo... new overnight update to FF AO #FirefoxTranslations ... & it's now fabulous! It's so improved over previous version that it now entirely obviates my only recently discovered & installed #ToDeepL AO, which i've now removed. The new version seems to have fixed all my hitherto gripes about its popup's/dropdown's patchy behaviour. Melikes!

I like:
- better than actual DeepL AO coz no user-registration needed
- I still use #FirefoxTranslations AO for full-page translations, but this new AO is nice for individual words/paragraphs
- no Permissions needed
- i WANT to use #Fosstodon's native tool, but as already discussed*, tis, um... "unreliable" 🤭
- faster / less-clicks than using DeepL site via bookmark

@lukas @jeybe @angrytux @dr4k Ich hoffe ja, dass #Firefoxtranslations sich in der Hinsicht noch verbessert. Habe das vor ein paar Monaten getestet, damals konnte es die Tröts leider (noch) nicht separat erkennen und dementsprechend auch nicht übersetzen.

#FirefoxTranslations no va mal. Su abanico de idiomas es todavía escaso.

Tener traducción fuera de línea es otro paso en favor de la privacidad.

Chez moi #FirefoxTranslations, l'extension qui fait de la traduction Offline (!) directement dans Firefox, n'arrive pas à lancer le "moteur de traduction". J'ai mis à jour FF (100), toujours le même problème.

Les pages en langues étrangères disponibles sont bien détectées, la traduction est proposée automatiquement, mais impossible d'aboutir...
