Cool article about the Climate Perks idea in Bristol, where employees are rewarded with extra days off to holiday with low carbon transport like trains and ferries instead of flights. Really hoping this catches on more broadly.

@Andy_European Scouting is what turned me green, and I love what the movement stands for. The idea of the World ScoutJamboree is beautiful, but it had its time: encouraging thousands of scouts to fly to an event, just doesn’t fit their—or any—sustainability goals!
I hope what happens now makes them reconsider or even drop the current concept…
BTW There are already smaller Jamborees—like the European Jamboree—where all participants can get to without flying!

The department head was fine about me opting out of the China trip, which involved at least 2 long haul flights plus other impacts.
But has (as was predictable) offered another colleague the chance to go instead. Given they are unlikely to prioritise CO2 or similar concerns, it is almost certain that by #NotFlying, I have increased the environmental impact of this project.

Schiphol hopes to start telling private jets they’re not welcome. “private jets are particularly being targeted because of the “disproportionate amount of noise nuisance and carbon dioxide emissions” they produce per passenger.”

Research published in 2021 found that, per passenger, private jets are between five and 14 times more polluting than a commercial flight and 50 times more polluting than trains.

It is taking me an incredibly long time to write an email to my head of department explaining that (and why) I don't want to go on a work trip to China.
Wish I could just write "Climate emergency" and hit send.
