I ate something yesterday which caused an allergic reaction of some kind along the roof of my mouth. I'm not sure what it was, but it was related to my eating Chicken Chettinad.

Anyone have any ideas about potentially challenging ingredients (in terms of plausibly causing an allergic reaction) in that dish?

So, today I learned ginger is spicy.

I went on Wikipedia and found out that drying ginger converts the gingerol to shogaol that's basically the same as capsaicin in terms of taste. So I got out the new bag of dried ginger, opened it, and ate some.

Apparently the sensation I have called "spicy" for *nearly 40 years* is, in fact, oral allergy response. Dried ginger is pretty tasty, but not at all the same.
