Last night, Democratic activist and amazing person Stacey Abrams was on Joy Reid’s show on MSNBC and encouraged everyone (yes, everyone) to call their Senators EVERY DAY this month in support of the voting rights protection bill, the #ForthePeopleAct (HR1/S1.)

Great idea! From their event page: “As temperatures rise this summer, we are turning up the heat and calling our Senators to demand that they pass the For the People Act as it heads to a vote this month. This bill would block efforts to suppress the right to vote and protect the freedom to vote for every eligible American."

Whether it's this exact bill or another, we need to make sure our Senators hear us loud and clear that we expect them to pass a voting rights bill as soon as possible. Please do it.

Consider this: Republicans protected and excused the attempt to overturn a legitimate election with violence. Most of them still refuse to acknowledge President Biden won fair and square.

If Republicans come to power again via their supercharged voter suppression, America will not survive. They are domestic terrorists, not a political party. Without HR1 becoming law well before the 2022 elections, Americans all lose. As of now, Republican state legislatures across the country have filed and are passing legislation that makes it harder for people to vote. It’s already too difficult to most people vote, but they’re doing everything they can to put up even more roadblocks for people, not to ensure safe voting, but to keep anyone from voting against Republicans.

We must pass H.R. 1 through the U.S. Senate.
