Best advice I can give to new gamemasters, write down what you just did *directly* after a game session!

You will have invented things on the spot, or given hints you need to remind the players about.

I gave prophetic dreams to my player's characters, intending to use them as foreshadowing and prep basics. Five weeks later and I had no notes, it was game night. Forbidden Lands GM tables to the rescue!

It’ll be several sessions before we wrap up our current campaign. Thinking about proposing either #Torchbearer 2e or #ForbiddenLands for the next campaign. Many factors to think about, but I enjoy the evaluation process.

First time playing Forbidden Lands last night and it had a strong travel montage sequence vibe.

Lots of rolls to see how easily you find food & water & where to camp that day. The travel was the thing in this game, it seemed.

Ended up in a big battle w/ a demonic bear that was following us, though, and since it’s a grim dark setting, it was brutal and tense. One player lost a leg. (Yes…player because it’s funnier that way & y’all know what I meant.)

This year, #ForbiddenLands. Played it on Jan 5th to be precise. We started a campaign in spring of 2021, and finished it in spring of this year.

Bonus, first RPG ever: #GURPS using a D&D style setting about 20 years ago. My GM at the time had just abandoned D&D because he hated the direction #WotC was taking with 3e.

3. First RPG bought (this year)
Went though my account and saw HumbleBundle January 1st and got excited, but it was just the bank date. Humble's purchase date was December 30th. It was the #Vaesen & #ForbiddenLands bundle.

A bit further I found an 11SEK purchase from Drivethough on the 10th. Apparently it was a sale going on the then as I got #BasicRoleplaying for 1US$. Kind of a steal. Have yet to actually download the PDF and read anything. Just an offer too good to pass by.

J'ai découvert #foundryVTT ce weekend. C'est sacrément bien fichu comme outil, c'est bien mieux que les solutions gratuites #roll20 et #letsrole je suis conquis.
Bon ça vaut son petit billet (57€TTC) mais vu la qualité de l'interface, ce sera vite rentabilisé.

Et, cerise sur le gâteau, ça tourne sur mon vieux Raspberry Pi 3b sans souci.

@bwebster True. I've recently finished a 2 year long weekly #ForbiddenLands campaign, and I had great fun. It's not #OSR for sure, but very clearly OSR-Inspired. If you like old school play but also are happy to experiment a bit or are just tired of D20 rolls, it's absolutely worth checking out. @chaoticneutral

Just finished one of my long term campaign. #ForbiddenLands #YearZeroEngine system. 66 sessions spread across 10 months, we aimed for weekly but obviously people have vacation times etc so we had to skip a fair amount of sessions. Still, 66 in < 2 years is ok with it being not even my only campaign.

Loved the party, and still love the system as well. But also I don't think I will run a long campaign in FBL again. I feel the system was at its best in the first 15-20 sessions.

@taffysaint I do believe part 3 of their big campaign is planned already, hope to see it soon. Scaling issues is sadly a common issue with #FreeLeague / #YearZero games in my experience. I'm ending a 70 session #ForbiddenLands campaign this month, and the main reason I'm switching away is because the scaling started breaking after 25-30 sessions and only got worse after that. Still love the system, but going to use it only for shorter campaigns in the future.

@FortiterGames @TheDreadGazebo @hexcrawl I sold my copy of Rime, mainly because I decided that The Bitter Reach for #ForbiddenLands was much more likely to get used whether with its own #ttrpg or hacking to 5E.
