Today I did not get any of the things I wanted to do done. But I did free this carpenter ant that had somehow gotten its head stuck in some tiny larva's nest in a cluster of leaves so there's that. 🐜

four genera of ants I've met recently:

- _Prenolepis imparis_
- _Camponotus_ sp.
- _Lasius_ sp.
- _Myrmica rubra_?

In other news, the pharaoh ants in my apartment seem to have been driven out by these larger (~3mm?) ants. They are slow-moving, often standing still seemingly lost in thought or perhaps distracted; but they are also voracious foragers that rapidly descend on any fallen crumbs or drops of sugary tea.

In size they are between the brown pavement ants and _Myrmica rubra_. They have knobbly, rough petioles. The thorax has small points on it, barely worth calling spikes.
