Frustrated that the new #ForteanTimes digital app is broken. I lost my latest issue in the update, and years worth of back issues that I paid to access. No one from #PageSuite is answering the support email.

A new month, a new bunch of reading books currently on the go. Still reading #WheelOfTime book 7 but making excellent progress with it. Other books on the go include Stranger Times (like a fictionalised #ForteanTimes), #Tolkien large print #Numenor book, #queer culture in #DnD (#LGBTQ), a comprehensive #ClimateCrisis book, and 50 years of #TextGames / #InteractiveFiction. #books #reading #fiction #nonFiction #fantasy #WoT #GretaThunberg

One of TikTok's top #cryptids is the Appalachian critter "not-deer" which sort of looks like a deer until you REALLY look and find that it's not, it's an uncanny animal that scares the heck out of people. Jerry Clark describes "not deer" encounters way back in #ForteanTimes issue 8 before they even had a name. #popcryptids

Charles Berlitz' book on The Bermuda Triangle was serialized in the UK Sunday Express in 1975 making his inaccurate descriptions of missing boats and planes and fringe ideas about Atlantis widely available. In #ForteanTimes 9, the reviewer says people should make up their own mind about the data that showed that weird things happen more in that area. Except they don't. Berlitz' data was atrocious and mostly wrong. Larry Kusche's book demolishing Berlitz came shortly after.
I've looked into the concept of leys (leylines) from their origin thanks to Alfred Watkins. But Paul Screeton in #ForteanTimes 5 insists that Watkins was a closet psychic who really knew these were not just alignments but "paths of subtle current" whose power and utility would soon be revealed to all. That was 1974. Still waiting. https://spookygeology.com/leylines-from-the-old-straight-track-to-the-ghostbusters-vortex/
Ice falls. There are almost countless incidents of large chunks of ice falling out of a clear sky. This appears in #ForteanTimes issues 3 and 6. Unfortunately, the photos don't reproduce well. But there is NO doubt this happens maybe a few times a year around the world. Because it occurs often near airports, the best guess is ice that has accumulated on the plane dislodges during the descent. But there are also cases of megacryometeors - giant aggregated hailstones.
Following through with the Berwyn Hills/Mountain incident, the #ForteanTimes piece references The Ley Hunter of March 1974. Thanks to the incredible work of Issac Koi, you can also read THIS online. https://files.afu.se/Downloads/Magazines/United%20Kingdom/Ley%20Hunter,%20The/Ley%20Hunter%20-%201974%20no%2053.pdf
The Llandrillo (Berwyn Mountain UFO) incident (Jan 1974) was covered well in #ForteanTimes No 5. There was green fireball, an explosion, and seismic activity recorded. It's still a very interesting case. The news first appeared in FT 3 (March 1974) and reports continued for several issues. It's a fascinating and still mysterious event. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berwyn_Mountain_UFO_incident It's interesting to read these contemporary accounts.
For those of you interested in #Fortean and #weird #nature: I’m reading through the bound editions of early Fortean Times. The text is tough to read with this old type print and bound close to the edge but I found some interesting things so far. I’ll add them to this thread. Follow #ForteanTimes to not miss any.

The biggest problem with me trying to update my Fortean Times cover gallery's index is that I keep stopping to re-read articles.
The last two issues of #ForteanTimes has an interesting pair of articles about the Mothman phenomenon, the 60s fad which was revived in a flurry of reports a decade ago. Well, the most interesting part wasn't about the alleged creature, but about the people involved - as is so often the case.

Back at it with the #ForteanTimes this morning, indexing Konspiracy Korner. A blast from the past with the "surfacing" of stories about Barack Obama during his first presidential campaign. It's interesting to remember some of the spaghetti that got thrown at the wall but didn't stick. Sad also to remember what did.

I'm volunteering with the #ForteanTimes to index their back issues. Today it's stories about lost watches and cellphones being rediscovered inside fish. Strange Days indeed.
