Well that was stressful. The baby started having difficulty breathing and we live rurally. At one point I thought he was going to stop breathing altogether and die in my arms. The ambulance arrived in good time and he has been whipped away to hospital with my wife now. That's two ambulance call outs in two weeks. This baby has some serious stuff going on.

About a month into our lad's #fostering placement now. The changes we've seen in him have been amazing. He came to us with a brainful of huggy wuggy and no ability to regulate his emotions or play nicely with others. Now he's besties with our big two and only occasionally loses control of himself, but when he does its an easy fix. His language has become much more coherent and he's starting to untangle reality from fictional tablet world. Long way to go but this is why we do this.

Meanwhile I'm getting getting hourly violent death threats from the lad we're caring for and it's wearing pretty thin now. Not feeling very Christmassy.

Urgh. When the baby we are fostering temporarily has access with his birth parents he is very distressed by the time he gets home.

I think it's mix of emotions from them that he picks up on, but also the feeling from the social worker who knows they are dangerous and could accidentally (or purposefully) hurt him quite easily.

Last night I was up till 1am because he simply would not settle and needed to be held all the time.

@kentalbot it also means that with so few local authority carers kids are placed in less than ideal situations that inevitably lead to them moving repeatedly anyway. We have 3 of our own children, it's not what many kids need, we can't magically be the perfect fit.
Frankly, if there was a financial reward that made sense for people to enter into #fostering it would save such a lot of misery and further expense down the line as they'd actually have a chance of recruiting.

@Jonokli and the result of not having enough people #fostering is that private fostering organisations and children's homes are making massive profits and children are denied a basic right, i.e. living in a family

#Fostering is voluntary. Even for experienced #fostercarers who receive a skills fee, it's an opportunity cost to do it. Tonight I have had the penny drop with our lad that his life has completely changed and it was harrowing. There is a queue of kids going through this and not enough people to take them in. It's a tragedy in this country.
