On my way back from a #FreeHer rally today, I saw a Black man in a wheelchair leaving a cannabis dispensary.
Maybe it just hit so hard because I'd spent all day thinking about prison abolition and justice, but I thought "that guy's life would have been very different a few years ago. His pain relief would have been criminalized. Now it's not."
And today was just a sunny optimistic kinda day, and I thought...maybe sometimes we really do win. Sometimes a better world happens just a little bit.
Join us at the State House at 1 PM tomorrow (Sat. April 15) to support #FreeHer and tell our representatives to fund community resources instead of building prisons!

One of my photographs as a PSA to promote the National Council For Incarcerated & Formerly Incarcerated Women & Girls' #FreeHer campaign.
The National Council was founded in 2010 by a group of women incarcerated in federal prison in Danbury, CT. Many of us are mothers, the organization works to end the criminal legal system's forced separation of women and girls from their communities and loved ones through hyper-local organizing, public awareness education, movement lawyering, and the national #FreeHer Campaign. The National Council also organizes against the incarceration of women globally through its International Network.
Our mission was and still is, to end the incarceration of women and girls.
