Suddenly one of the ghosts stops in front of me and seems to look at me. Just the same, I watch it closely. It's green and hollow. Like a woven surface of green light for its form. Suddenly, it addresses me,

“You need to know that the trees are thin hollow creatures of a fine woven net. What you see during day is mostly construction. The translucent green part that is alive exists between bark and wood. That's what a tree is.”

And as the ghost says that, all the trees start to glow green like the ghosts wandering among them, showing the gracious green hull they are. Surprised, I raise my brows and think,

“Yes, that's how they are!”

Dream 7
The Night of the Spirits (fantasy fiction, 1/2)

“It is tonight that we rise.

For once in the year,

we wake and we walk.

To remind that we were.

That we always have been.”

The voices of the many echo in my head as I lift myself up in the middle of the forest in a pitch-black night.

Around me spheric green lights rise from the grounds like ghosts from ancient existences. Each of them seems to have been a creature on this earth. It's hard to tell which. Human? Animal? Insect? I just can't tell. They are all just entities who once roamed this land.

They rise and form a procession as if they are going somewhere.

Dream 6
Orca (steampunk fiction, 3/3)

The animal is somehow able to hear that and instantly starts to hustle. And the person on the other side of this damned communicator stresses, “Go, go, go, you do it!”

Click. I turn him off, take a deep breath and silently condemn that fellow who tried to put us under pressure.

“Hush. Take it slow. Ignore him. Just think of the 1,…2,…3,…4. Today we make it in a relaxed way. Forget about the race. Just 1,…2,…3,…4.”

The orca calms down again. We both start again to enjoy the travel. Him, there in the waters. Me, up there in my strange device. The landscape is just too beautiful to have it spoiled.

But in the end the goal comes around. We hear the cheering, we endure congratulations. And at the end, I receive the prize money.

When all the fuss is gone, I look at my account. It's enough to provide the tame orca a permanent residence at a wonderful natural resort far off from any competitions.

He's got a life to live, you know.

Dream 6
Orca (steampunk fiction, 2/3)

I have no interest in winning as I do not love such races. Therefore, the orca and I take it slow after the starting ssigna. The animal seems nervous, trained to perform until exhaustion.

“Slow down. Today we need not to win. Just enjoy the swim. Count slowly until the next push. 1,…2,…3,…4. Right, that's it. 1,…2,…3,…4.”

It takes the orca a while to cool down but then it swims quite regularly at a relaxed pace.

Meanwhile I struggle with my propeller engine. It's quite a stubborn steam stuff, difficult to handle. The trees in the forest get denser, that thing is not equipped to gain more height than the tree’s tips, and so, I have to maneuver it between the trunks.

Then it happens. I scratch one of the trees and go rotatingly down, making an uneasy landing.

It could be worse. With a few adjustments I manage to get the device airborne again after 5 minutes. Meanwhile my orca waited for me and slowly gains speed after it noticed that I am on the move again.

Suddenly a crackling noise comes in from my communications device. “Are you okay there? We got a footage about a crash!”

I push the button to answer. “I am okay, back in air already.”

“You’d better be! Your orca is winning! You've got a good one! Come on, hurry! Or you lose your ranking!”
