William Hemsley (d. 1924), British botanist and Keeper of the Library & Herbarium at Kew, was born today in 1843. Hemsley published The Apetalous Fuchsias of South America in 1875. Fuchsia hemsleyana, now a synonym of F. microphylla ssp hemsleyana, was named for him in 1937. Fuchsia Sec.
