Caution must be exercised when using the G-quadruplex #G4 ligand PDS as an anticancer agent since it triggers genetic instability in neurons.
We show in the Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC) how PDS damages neurons, notably via a massive modulation their transcriptional activity.
New nanomedicine results!
When G-quadruplex #G4/hemin complexes (GH) are combined with nanoparticles (UMOF), the resulting UMGH kills hypoxic cancer cells thanks to a new, in situ generated photodynamic therapy #PDT.
Indeed, GH convert hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in O2 (G4-DNAzyme) in situ, which is then converted into reactive oxygen species (ROS) thanks to the UMOF.

A new role for BLM helicase!
BLM is known to bind to and unwind DNA G-quadruplex #G4. In this new Nucleic Acids Res. article, we show that it unwinds RNA G4 as well, thereby regulating stress granules (SG) dynamics.
