#Police Are Getting #DNA Data From People Who Think They Opted Out
#Forensic #genetic #genealogists like Cece Moore skirt #GEDmatch #privacy rules by hunting for relatives just as traditional genealogists do but with a twist: They work with #lawenforcement agencies and use commercial databases to search for people who can help identify remains or perpetrators who left DNA at #crimescene. Moore among fields biggest evangelists, boasts of having helped close over 200 cases.

This is such a gray area. I'm conflicted.
I like the concept of solving cases, but hate the way some agencies have abused the opportunity to use #DNA. Some of my #GEDMatch kits are private, some are marked OK for LE use. I do support the desire of Ancestry to stay out of this arena.
I'm more concerned about the monetization of the DNA databases and potential abuse by health insurance and health care companies.

Might as well throw my GEDmatch samples out there too, though again I'm not actively researching right now (will not respond to messages on these sites):
Me: VG629742C1
My mom (deceased): SK4247711
My DNA is on basically all the common sites under this name.
