One boat sank in the South Indian Ocean and Kirsten plucked her fellow competitor out of the sea before dropping him on a container ship and continuing on her way.

A little over a year ago I stumbled upon Sailing Magic Carpet, a vlog by a young couple traveling by boat & rebuilding a Cape George 36 they bought cheap & sight-unseen during the early pandemic. They reminded me of the Golden Globe Race #GGR a single-handed, non-stop circumnavigation without using modern tech and interviewed South African Kirsten Neuschäfer before she set out in her own Cape George:

I've always had quite an infatuation with the Groudle Glen Railway on the #IsleOfMan. During the 1960s, the railway and its locomotives were going through a seriously tumultuous time, best captured by Ivo Peters around 1962.

We've already been thinking about the role of a Carbon Regulator

And we're starting to see more interest in this from GOV and other stakeholders for areas such as #carbonmarkets and #GGR.

But a #CarbonRegulator with economy wide oversight would provide the best framework for a low carbon economy in the UK.

@Fanfaronade I think there's a risk at the moment that we ramp up #CCS and #GGR too soon without doing the needed reductions/efficiencies.

Which means we don't learn to decarbonise and instead just keep cleaning up the symptoms and chasing our tails.

Even if developed nations reach actual #NetZero, if developing nations continue to grow carbon intensively, our tail chasing will become even more frantic.
