A group of government officials subsequently issued a report to the minister of climate and energy, Rob Jetten, with additional measures aimed at achieving the 2030 climate goals, ie 55-60% reduction of #GHGemissions compared to 1990. If one is concerned about anthropogenic climate change, one of the largest contributions to reducing anthropogenic Greenhouse Gas emissions is to never fly ... anywhere. The airline industry is one of the greatest contributors to GHG emissions, atmospheric pollution, and resource consumption.

The airport consists of more than just aircraft. It requires massive amounts of diesel-fueled mining, transportation, manufacture, maintenance and repair. It is impossible to power aircraft in any meaningful way with so-called renewable energy sources. It requires passengers to arrive in cars at the 24/7 energy consuming terminals. It produces millions of tons of wastes, plastics and unrecyclable materials every year.

My wife and I have not traveled by air since 2007, and never will.

Stay on the ground. We have no wings; we cannot fly.

Carbon tariffs are a signal (but not necessarily a strong one). They basically say that it is still ok to pollute, as long as you can afford to make an additional payment. This feels similar to buying an “indulgence” from the Catholic Church back in the 16th century, which did upset Martin Luther just a little bit. We do need to properly price the devastating cost to the environment of the man-made production of excessive #GHGemissions.

This means that starting with FY2024, all publicly listed companies, companies with 250+ employees & non-EU ones w/ a net turnover of EUR 150 million must publicly disclose their #GHGemissions across the entire value chain, i.e. scopes 1, 2 and 3!

Finally a win for #sustainability 🥳🥳
