Nice write-up by Carlos, long time contributor, about the future of advanced tablet pad support in #GIMP: https://blogs.gnome.org/carlosg/2023/06/16/getting-the-best-of-tablet-pads/
Mostly #Wayland-only (Linux) for now, though #GTK will hopefully get backends for Windows and macOS eventually!
The code is still in review, but not doubt it will be in GIMP by the 3.0 release. Very exciting!
We just published a revision 1 for the DMG packages of #GIMP 2.10.34 for #macOS (both Apple Silicon and Intel architectures).
It fixes an ugly memory leak in one of our dependencies which was reported to us.

Thanks to @lukaso for the packaging work!
Announcement for packagers of #babl (the color conversion engine by the #GIMP project: https://gegl.org/babl/): babl 0.1.104 just got released!
Thanks to @pippin for the awesome work, as usual.
Today @zemarmot merged the code allowing to search #GEGL plug-ins in action search.
They even went a bit further: all these GEGL operations are now also added by alphabetical order to the new submenu `Filters > Generic > GEGL Operations`. This will include any third-party GEGL plug-in you might have installed.
This makes custom GEGL plug-ins first-class citizens from now on!
This feature will be available in next dev version (#GIMP 2.99.16).
After another month of work, @zemarmot merged the GAction/GMenu branch to our main development branch.
⇒ The #GTK+3 port of #GIMP is officially finished (apart from minor deprecated API here and there, but no huge tasks anymore)!!! 🥳🎉🥂
We even already updated the roadmap which now says "Port to GTK3": done.
As side effect of the recent work on actions, @zemarmot implemented displaying actions' menu path in the action search popup of #GIMP as a #usability feature.
It can help one know where to find actions in menus (or shortcuts) rather than tediously explore menus.
#devnews
New feature by @zemarmot in #GIMP development version (future 3.0): the program will now inhibit logout/power-off on systems which support it (usually it displays a warning allowing you to confirm the shutdown anyway or not) when there is some unsaved work.
The associated message tells you how many images have unsaved changes.
Applications for #GSoC internships are opening today. #GIMP is once again a possible mentor organization.

#DevNews Yesterday, after 1+ month of work, @zemarmot finally got rid of GtkAction/GtkUIManager code in #GIMP codebase. In other words: the end of the port to #GTK+3!
There are still a few bugs and issues to handle before they would be merging their branch into the main source tree.
"I wonder how this would look in teal blue", I thought. Got a bit carried away in #Gimp ;) Used Select by Colour, a bit of Lasso and a brush to create a mask, and then Curves to recolour.
It's interesting that to create teal blue, you don't just increase Green and Blue, you lower Red quite dramatically too.
Also I don't understand why mkv from #vokoscreen can't be uploaded here or to Twitter. Had to fire up #OliveVideoEditor

I own this laptop for almost a year and only just realized that #Gimp here doesn't have #WaveletDenoise.
You understand, I've been using the same desktop since 2010, and was using this plugin before that, so I didn't remember if it was one of the stock ones or installed later.
Anyway, I think that's my first successful make>make install ever, after 15 years on #Linux ;)
GIMP Help Manual 2.10.34 released!
Highlights: docs improvements, more supported languages, help IDs synced up with #GIMP, daily updates of the online version.
There are also installers for Windows.
Huge 👍 to Jacob Boerema for his incredible work. The future of GIMP documentation feels good!

our awesome packager of #GIMP for #Windows, @jernej__s, has been experimenting with an AArch64 (ARM 64-bit) version of GIMP for Windows. We already have a very beta installer for people to test! 🥳
Anyone interested in regularly QA-test GIMP on this platform? If so, subscribe according to procedure described in: https://gimp.org/news/2023/02/27/gimp-2-10-34-released/#improved-release-procedure-and-call-for-testers

This is also a nice time to remind that the main developers are crowdfunding their effort, improving the software at each and every release.
Donating to their development funds makes their work and therefore #GIMP itself sustainable!💌
