The badges of the Greater London Council: Radiation fades your genes.

In line with many local authorities under the control of Labour’s “new urban left” (for want of a better term) in the ‘80s, standing against nuclear weapons and the transportation of nuclear power station waste on mainline railway lines was one the GLC’s campaigning priorities. This was one of a number of campaign badges produced.

Municipal cover of the day: from 1985, a Greater London Council valedictory brochure in respect of its stewardship of London Transport from 1970 to '84. A strong '80s computer game graphic vibe on the front cover! The Woolwich-Erith riverside project. This is the cover to a 1966 document produced by the Greater London Council outlining plans for a major housing development - in effect a New Town in London’s south eastern suburbs.

Without a name at the time, we now know it as Thamesmead.
