Take breaks. Don't forget to take regular breaks and give your players a chance to stretch their legs and relax.

Ask for feedback. Get feedback from your players to see what they enjoyed and what could be improved.

Make your own content. Don't be afraid to create your own content if you want to. It's a great way to personalize your game. #DMTips #GMTips #TTRPGTips

If you have a map, you have a story. Our latest “Worldbuilding Wednesday” article discusses world-building by map. Take a look at https://unformedworlds.com/post/worldbuilding-by-map/

Some NPCs are mean, not everyone in a story is doing the right thing, or behaving properly, so some NPCs will be dicks
A cool tip for taking the sting out of nasty/mean NPC dialogue:
Even though the player "knows" it's not you, they may still "feel" like it's you saying these things.
What I do sometime is in-between the NPC talking I'll break off as a DM and say to the player "Urgh, this guy is a total dick!".
Really seems to help the player "feel" that it's just the NPC
If ever you're stuck on how to convey the emotional mood/resonance/importance of a narrative beat in a game, describe how the fictitious fandom for your game is reacting.
"Fandom is FREAKING OUT because the romantic tension might kill them all"
"Fandom has to pause here to hyperventilate because whatever happens next could change everything."
"Hashtag Fucking VICTORY starts trending immediately."
Make being a literal fan of your game work for you.
The gamemaster resource books in this Bundle of Holding are really fantastic, and they're an absolute steal at $9.95. I highly recommend them no matter whether you're just starting your first RPG campaign or you've been GMing for decades.

Working on my "Fall of the House of Escher" convention one-shot using the Dark Heresy 2 system, and I realize that now is a good time to dust off and add to the next draft of my Running Your Best Convention One-Shot blog series. You can read the first part, all about best practices for making pre-gens for convention RPG games, here: https://katrinaostrander.com/running-your-best-convention-one-shot-part-1-pre-gens/ The next part will be all about crafting a good one-shot scenario. #GMTips #DMTips #TTRPGs #Gamemaster

Are you in a long-running campaign? Say, north of six months / a year.
When was the last time you reached out to another player or the GM, outside of the scheduled sessions, to ask how it's going?
If you're a GM, call your players. Ask them how it's going. Call your GM, ask *them*. You'll probably get a great conversation and insight into your table.
Yes, I told you to call them. Yes, I'm in my 40s. How did you guess?
Hey lovely #ttrpg people! I made a small web app for you to test and train voices! It's located at https://optional.games/qpg

That's also a great #GMTips if you need a quick NPC. Combine that with Vincent Baker's "Give everything a but" and you get:
Indiana Jones, but he constantly rides a bike.
Curious George, but he's also a hacker.
Batman, but he's broke now.
Fit them to the setting, do an optional gender flip, done!
