#NOAA launched the #GOES18 weather satellite in March of 2022.
It officially went live today, January 4, 2023. The first image released under itβs new official name GOES-WEST is of a massive bomb cyclone bearing down on California!
This amazing in-orbit instrument carries state-of-the-art cameras for high-resolution visible and infrared imaging, lightning detection, and other sensors to monitor βspaceβ weather, like solar flares.
Congrats, NOAA!
