New paper on selection bias in large cohorts like UK Biobank. Previous work in this area had corrected for bias by reweighting samples using population reference data or used data only from within the cohort to detect sex-specific participation bias.
This new method by Benonsidottir and Kong look at haplotype sharing between close relatives to find genetic loci that drive participation bias. #GWAS
As GWAS meta-analysis sample sizes have grown larger, SNP heritability has shrunk.
The mystery has a solution: Including more studies increases between-study heterogeneity. When the genetic correlation among the studies being included is less than 1, the heritability of the meta-GWAS gets smaller. #GWAS
