#Crimean #Tatar activist Dzhemil #Gafarov has died in Russian #detention.

#Russia ignored repeated calls to provide medical aid and to release Gafarov given his health condition.

Gafarov was detained in the annexed #Crimea in 2019.

According to human rights organizations, the whole process was politically motivated - targeting the Crimean #Tatars; who, as the original inhabitants of the peninsula, began to return in the last decades after the deportations during the times of the #USSR.
